On Friday evening under lights Castledaly travelled to The Downs to
play under heavy rain conditions. The home team settled quickest and
scored a goal in the sixth minute that left Castledaly chasing the
game. The visitors were under pressure throughout the first moiety
with Jordan Nugent, Shane Dolan, Shane Fitzpatrick, Liam Fitzpatrick
all battling to withstand the onslaught. At the scoring end of the
pitch we enjoyed some impressive points from play from midfield duo
Alan Stone and Fergal Hynes, while Kevin Stone also added a valuable
point from play as well as an accurate free kick. The score of the
first half was a top quality goal from Aaron Nugent, who saw his first
effort saved brilliantly, but the young forward followed up with an
instinctive volley to keep Castledaly only trailing The Downs by three
points at half time – The Downs 2-4(10) Castledaly 1-4(7)
The second half mirrored the first, with the home team hitting the
goal net in the first minute from play. Castledaly followed up with a
neat score from Dan Heavin . A free kick and point from play for The
Downs was answered by another Alan Stone long range point from play.
Aaron Nugent saw his shot drop short and Alan Stone went wide with two
efforts before The Downs added another point. Jordan Nugent saved
twice in quick succession before his net was breached for a 2nd goal
to the home team. As Liam Fitzpatrick limped off injured Castledaly
shuffled their defence but The Downs proved strongest finishers , with
the final score 5 – 11 Castledaly 1 – 6.

Castledaly Fit Club continues every Monday Wednesday Friday under the
expert guidance of Liam Lorcan and Paulette.

Due to necessary maintenance work the Walking Track is closed for few
weeks. Thanks to everyone for their support.

Castledaly LGFA U8 & U10 teams held their first training session on
Sunday 1st March. A special thank you to all the players, parents,
coaches and trainers who braved the elements, through hail and shine,
ensuring the morning was a great success! Training continues at 11am
on Sunday 8th March in Moate AstroTurf pitch. The under 10 team will
attend an LGFA Westmeath Blitz on 14 March. All teams who take part in
this blitz will be entered into a draw to participate in the LGFA
Croke Park Activity day on 10th April. Fingers crossed Castledaly LGFA
will be one of the lucky teams chosen to represent the county.

Not our day for Jack Cooney’s Westmeath squad at weekend in NFL
falling to neighbours Roscommon . We wish Paddy Holloway and Lorcan
Dolan speedy recoveries and see them back in action soon after
impressive county contributions this year.
